Plans for Brainpie: 2021

Notebook header. An open notebook with dotted grid paper shows a mess of sketches such as: Cocktail Drinkynums with 2 oz. blue liquid, 2 oz. white rum, and 1 oz. purple stuff; shotglass, martini glass, and lowball glass; a self portrait sketch; ideas for airflow and presentation; confetti treats for angel food, cookies, frosting, cupcakes, and coffee. On the second page, there is a calendar for Aug 1 pink drink, Aug 15 yellow cookies, Sep 1 angel Bundt cake, Sept 15 pearl drop smoothie, Oct 1 autumn salad, Oct 15 pumpkin crap, Nov 1 marshmallow gelatin, Nov 15 turkey pate. Below that is a shaker with notes for powdered sugar, corn starch, baking powder, and baking soda.

This site hasn’t seen a whole lot of activity, has it? I do have reasons.

As I’m sure you know, there was a worldwide pandemic in 2020 that severely limited or stopped some supply chains. That explains the ingredients aspect. The personal aspect deals with depression, work-related stress, and actively trying to change careers.

So I’ve had a lot to deal with—and I’m still dealing with some of it.

Supply chains are more or less operating again. I quit my job, so that took care of most of the depression and stress. (It’s a process, and I don’t know when I’ll feel 100% or even 90% again.)

But Brainpie still isn’t seeing a lot of activity because:

  1. I’m still knee-deep in my career change efforts. With luck, I may have a job (or at least an apprenticeship) sometime this year.
  2. I have other projects. Some are personal and creative, others are more for the benefit of others. Those with possible career or income opportunities are going to get the most attention.
  3. My current batch, Draco Sinister, is a fucking slog. If you can ever find yourself a copy, try reading it. Go on, just try. See what I’ve had to go through for the past several months. It’s not easy forcing yourself to read something you pretty much hate.

But Brainpie is never really far from my mind. These are my plans for the site:

  1. Come hell or high water, I will finish The Draco Trilogy. It may take another year or two, but I do plan on finishing what I started. Yes, even if it’s a story I hate.
  2. But Draco may be my last batch. As much fun (sometimes) as the batches are, they require more planning and resources than shorter recipes.
  3. I want to focus on random recipes in the future. Possibly those from Ruth Ellen Church. I’ve always wanted to give her more attention.
  4. Birthday posts may still be a thing. Depending on how busy I am this year, I may skip 2021’s post.

That is all I have to say about Brainpie for now. I liked this little hobby, and I want to revisit it. Maybe in the future, I can even keep it up like I did in the early days of Brainpie’s life.
